Chapter 3 - Situations Subchapter: Consent, alcohol & drugs

Scenario: Hooking up 1

Swipe left left left … oh cute!

Elise swiped right on Mark and they started chatting. She thought he was a hottie and bonus, made her laugh, heaps. Funny was a big tick for Elise. She discovered they had a couple of friends in common and decided it was ok to meet up. Also, she’d checked his Facebook, and there was nothing too weird that she could find.

Mark was keen to see an exhibition of comic book art at a gallery in town. It was free, and they could walk and talk with plenty of other people around. They agreed to meet after lunch on Saturday.

It was a brilliant afternoon. They spent a couple of hours in the gallery then walked along the river until both decided they needed some food.

Elise suggested that Mark come back to her flat - they could order in and maybe have a few drinks. Mark was funny and hot and sweet and hot–just her type.

Mark thought Elise was making it pretty clear that she was into him. He was enjoying the attention and he liked her - dinner and some drinks sounded cool.

CAN GO TO ELISE'S FLAT FOR FOOD AND DRINKS?

The Field Model diagram – two characters are on Yes, so they move to the Action Zone.

Elise and Mark order in dumplings, drink a bottle of wine, and then some shots of something Elise had in the cupboard.

By midnight they’re both pretty drunk and the groping and kissing is getting intense.

When her flatmate arrives home, Elise suggests they move to her bedroom and watch a movie on her laptop. Mark is keen and quickly agrees.

CAN WATCH A MOVE IN THE BEDROOM?

The Field Model diagram – two characters are on Yes, so they move to the Action Zone.

They start up a movie then quickly get back to kissing.

Elise feels so relaxed she can barely keep her eyes open. She’s tugging at Mark’s shirt, trying to get it off. Mark needs to use the bathroom and decides to go now before things go too far and he won’t want to stop.

Elise is asleep when Mark returns to the bedroom. She stirs when he sits on the bed and reaches out for him.

Before Mark had gone to the bathroom, it had seemed pretty clear they were going to have sex, but now?

Elise is drunk and sleepy, but she’s still able to decide to have sex with him, right?

ELISE CAN CONSENT TO HAVE SEX?

The Field Model diagram - one character is on No, the other is on I Don’t Know, so they move to the End Zone.

YOU CANNOT GAIN CONSENT FROM SOMEONE IF THEY ARE AFFECTED BY ALCOHOL OR DRUGS.

Mark realises that Elise is too drunk to say yes to sex. And he likes her, and he wants her to be totally into it.

Although they met on a dating app and they might both have been looking for sex, it doesn’t mean sex without consent.

Mark likes Elise and really hopes there’ll be a next time.
